Student Culinary Council Meeting Update


The Good Stuff:

Constructive Criticism:

Lots of fish lately? More sushi!!

We added a new station that which also serves fish one to two times a week. This of course mean we have fish more often! However, we have added some more salmon to our rotation of fish dishes as many students asked for it. Fish is high source of omega-3s is a healthy lean protein. We also get a lot of fish from Red's Best that is local and sustainable. Next semester we are opening a Sushi Bar in the Snack Bar where we will serve fresh sushi to order.

Lines at the Chef's Table are long:

Chef's Table is a very popular station. Fresh food made to order can take extra time. When the Dining Commons extension opens lines may move faster as Chef's Table(to be re-named Magellan's) will operate out of the flat top in Toasted.

More avocados

Due to the hurricane that battered Mexico, we were unable to get as many avocados as we normally do. As the farmers re-grow their crops more avocados will come back into the Dining Commons.

Fresher fruits?

They are cut the night before in the kitchens. The only fruit we receive frozen are for the special smoothies bars we run.

Strawberry yogurt NOT GREEK:

We will be on the lookout for a machine that dispenses regular strawberry yogurt. We eliminated the yogurt in the bowl as it did not stay fresh because it was exposed to air.

There are huge rushes at 7, why aren't you open till 7:30pm?

This decision was made based on historical student traffic. It also allows us to be open until 9pm seven days a week and add the 2 hours of services between lunch and dinner.

Football players feel that they only JUST make in back in time for dinner.

Looking for Raw Kale at the Salad bar.

We will have kale at the salad bar once a week, starting next week, October, 16th.

Vegan/Vegetrain fee like there are not options after 7pm:

We have added roasted vegetables and hummus for vegan and vegetarian students. We are considering other options at this time as well.
